3 Essential School Supplies That Aren’t on Your List
Christine Carter, Ph.D. is a Senior Fellow at the Greater Good Science Center. She draws on a 2013 study to add three unconventional but essential school supplies to your list—all designed to strengthen social intelligence and meaningful relationships:
The Courage Tool: Standing up for yourself or for someone else in an uncertain circumstance is daunting and frightening for kids. However, teaching and encouraging the practice of courage would assist your kids for the rest of their lives.
The Garbage Can Tool: This tool helps kids develop a tough skin because it gives them a power to intentionally reject any unpleasant comments that could otherwise hurt them.
The Breathing Tool: The wonders of five long slow breaths are limitless. Practicing this phenomenon with your kids would help them deal with the tough times.
