Whether you’re just getting started on your fitness journey or you’re an expert already, having specific elements to complement your workout routine are key.
Working out, running and keeping fit have been a part of my life for years. I’m no expert, but I have been around the gym a time or two! I’ve been really trying to step my running game up this year so I’m really excited to participate in LG’s Get Started Virtual 5K.
I hope that you’ll consider joining me on this journey! To help you get started, take a look at my essentials for maintaining my workout routine.
Tracking progress keeps me motivated on the days when I’m in a bit of a funk. I track my workouts and growth in a journal, as well as my “wins” for each day and for the week. On the days when I don’t feel like working out, I look back at how far I’ve come. Reflecting on my progress really gives me the boost to stay motivated and keep going.
A Killer Playlist
No workout routine is complete without the ultimate playlist. I often rotate through workout playlist on Spotify but I have five songs I just can’t live without. Add them to your workout playlist and thank me later!
Carrie Underwood, The Champion
Ava Max, Kings & Queens
Joyner Lucas, 10 Bands
The Weekend, Heartless
Rest and Recovery
Taking care of your body in between workouts is not just important, it’s essential. For me, if my tools for rest and recovery aren’t around, I won’t commit to it. I keep a foam roller and neck roller next to my bed and make it part of my nighttime routine.
Another key element of the rest and recovery is, you guessed it, catching some z’s! I make sure to track my sleep and put any electronics away 2 hours before bedtime to make sure my brain is well rested.
Taking those first steps towards a new fitness routine or a fitness goal can be daunting, but my rule is the KISS philosophy: Keep It Simple Stupid. Sometimes we can over complicate each and every little detail. It’s so easy to do these days, especially with social media so prevalent in all our lives.
Keep simple goals, simple steps and your visions simple.
